Each course lasts five weeks and together they comprise a complete guide to researching your Family History. Day Schools may also be run. First Steps is for complete beginners and consists of: Introduction Civil Registration Census Returns Parish Registers and the IGI Wills Starts on Monday September 20th, 1.30 to 3.30 or Thursday September 23rd, 7.30 to 9.30 Further Steps continues with: Poor Law Maps Non-Conformists Apprentices and Professions Newspapers and Directories Taxation Starts in Spring 2011 Digging Deeper is mainly about using sources at the National Archives and includes: Introduction to TNA Merchant and Royal Navy Army and RAF Courts (Criminal and Civil, including Bankruptcy) Railway and Canal Ancestry Immigration and Emigration Starts on Monday 1st November, 1.30 to 3.30 or Thursday 4th November, 7.30 to 9.30 Notes and a list of useful books and websites for each subject are provided, and while a course is running they will be available to students on this website.
