David Davies is a prize-winning author of Pepys's Navy: Ships, Men and Warfare 1649-89, was published in 2008. Also author of Gentleman Captain, The Mountain of Gold and The Blast That Tears The Skies - collectively 'The Journals of Matthew Quinton' - a new series of naval and historical fiction set in the seventeenth century.

Currently Chairman of the Naval Dockyards Society and was a Vice-President of the Navy Records Society from 2008-12. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a member of the Council of the Society for Nautical Research. As well as winning the prestigious Samuel Pepys prize, he is also a past winner of the Julian Corbett prize for naval history.
